Overview
The Victorian Suite hosts a mix of antiques and 1930’s reproductions. The light colored walls and window treatments provide an open and airy feel to the room. The wall sconces, headboard and small canopy over the queen size bed are in the Victorian style. The black and white tiled, private bathroom is also remnant of the Victorian Era. This suite resides on the main level and is steps away from the back door that leads to the original wraparound porch. Outside each suite, a private seating area and kitchenette has been added where guest can safely socially distance while relaxing or enjoying breakfast.

A very cool place for a getaway. You can feel the charm when viewing the house and walking the surrounding grounds. But the charm doesn’t stop when you enter this beautiful home. Each room has unique character, appointed nicely by Michael. I love the location. Private and quiet. My favorite NC lake, Lake James, is just a mile or so away. Tons of hiking opportunities close by.

Great location at Lake James and Blue Ridge Mountains Older quaint house on a stream at Lake James. It is very close to Morganton in which we went for a couple nice dinners.

Michael was an excellent host. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan on returning when we can stay longer. With his fantastic sense of design Michael has worked wonders on this beautiful house. All the rooms are tastefully decorated, cozy and quaint, transporting you to an entirely different era. However, they also have modern touches such as gas fireplaces and updated bathrooms for convenience and comfort. Wonderful place to stay, we enjoyed it much more than a hotel! Tip: book directly through their website, the prices are always higher on booking sites.

Circa 1781. Sray at the Gateway to the Mountains in the oldest house in Burke County. A piece of NC history. Lovingly restored and tastfully decorated. Additions to the house include the original country store and a gazebo overlooking the river. So much to do wtihin an hour from here too.
